With a stirring quote set within a stunning and incisive collage, Zalben sets the tone for each of the sixteen peacemakers she profiles in this book. Mahatma Gandhi, Eleanor Roosevelt, Cesar Chavez,Aung San Suu Kyi, and the most recent Nobel Prize winner, Dr.Wangari Maathai, are some of thepeople she chose to represent different eras and parts of the globe. Many started down their path to peace during childhood, and all challenge us to think about improving the lives of others. Also included in this beautiful volume are art notes, a glossary, a bibliography, further reading, and an index, making it an excellent resource for teachers and students.

I love books featuring amazing people doing wonderful things to make the word a better place. This collection features changemakers who made a difference through strength in their characters and values all the while not resorting to violence.

Annotation: People are capable of amazing things. Sixteen of the most influential and world changing people are brought up in this informational non-fiction work, including Martin Luther King Jr., Albert Einstein, Eleanor Roosevelt and many others. Each person did incredible things during their lives to influence large groups of people to fight violently and non-violently to stand up for what they believed in, or wanted to bring peace, and safety to many others that were less fortunate. Every page is a short biography about the life and legacy of the person and what they contributed to a country or the world showing peace and kindness, and help to those who could not fight for themselves.
Classroom Connection/Personal Response: Each person made an impressive influence on a country or the world during their time. Have students break into pairs or individually and select one person from the story to further research and find out more information to present then to the class. Students could also take one person from the story, and look up the location from which they are from, or where they lived. Many people in the story are from different parts of the world, so learning about their culture and geographical location would help them learn more about where they are from, and what it is like in the area they lived.

"Paths to Peace: People Who Changed the World" is based on important people that have done something in their life to make the world how it is today. Some of the people in this book are talked about their accomplishments and I feel as if they weren't acknowledged enough. It's like you look at the names of some of these peers and think,"Who is this person?" It's sad because you might of heard of their accomplishment or what they did but you just didn't know who exactly to give thanks to. This is because we are not taught about these people as we should be. At the same time you might have heard of the name of the person but you just didn't know what they did. It doesn't matter whether you're in India or the U.S, these people have shown it has nothing to do with where you are or what skin tone you are, you can help your country in what it needs. This book is a go to if you have no idea who certain leaders are and you want to find out what certain people have gone through just to get their country to how it is now. I like how the author included a quote from each person in this book because most of these quotes are ones that can maybe get you through life in good or bad times. I would recommend this book to everyone because this is a very influential book. I rate this book a 5/5.

It isn't a bad book, but a collective biography that does not have pictures or images of the people being biographied kind of sucks.
